PATNA: One
Sarita Gupta (35) from Dighwara in Saran was admitted to Mahavir Vatsalya in an unconscious state due to ectopic rupture about a week ago with her haemoglobin count down to 1.2 per cent due to severe blood loss. The doctors administered 30 units of blood and components and saved her life.
“Since we had the required blood and other components, we could save her life,” Vatsalya blood bank in-charge Dr S Kaushalendra said.
Doctors at Vatsalya found that the woman had an ectopic pregnancy which had grown large and following which her fallopian tube was split open. Following the fallopian tube rupture, about three to four litres of blood were found deposited in her abdomen, requiring immediate surgery to save her life. The head of the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the hospital,
Dr
Anamika Pandey, with her team of Dr Swapna, Dr Pulak Tosh and Dr Geeta performed a surgery which lasted for an hour to repair the rupture.
“We administered 30 units of blood and other blood components to Sarita at the operation table. That included 8 units of PRBC, 10 units of FFP, 6 units cryo and six units of platelets,” Dr Pandey said.
The woman was on ventilator support for two days after the surgery but now she is alright and will be discharged on Thursday.
Sarita’s husband Akhileshwar Gupta said his wife has got a new life. “We had given up hope after visiting several hospitals in Saran. We came here is desperation and God has been kind enough to help us,” he said.
